Serving neighbors since 2019

Nobody should feel locked out of their own world.

We send patient, trained volunteers into living rooms — to untangle tablets, silence pop-up scams, and get grandchildren back on the video call screen. No rush. No jargon. Just a neighbor who knows how to help.

"I thought I'd broken it again. He just sat right down, didn't make me feel silly once. We had it working in ten minutes and he stayed for tea."

One story

Four years. One video call. Twelve seconds of silence.

An older Filipino man smiling at a laptop screen, warm kitchen light behind him, reading glasses on the table

First video call: 14 minutes

Ernesto called his brother Renaldo in Manila — they hadn't seen each other's faces since 2020.

Total volunteer time: 90 minutes

One visit. Setup, practice, and a shared cup of coffee before the call.

Ernesto, 74, had lived alone in his apartment on Walnut Street since his wife passed. His daughter had set up a laptop for him two years before — but a Windows update had knocked out the camera drivers, and no one had been able to fix it remotely.

"He kept saying, 'I just want to see his face. I don't need anything else. Just his face.'"

— Marisol, TechNeighbor volunteer, Walnut Street visit

Marisol, a retired school librarian who'd joined TechNeighbor six months earlier, spent forty minutes on the driver. Then another twenty walking Ernesto through the steps so he could do it himself next time. They practiced the call twice before dialing Renaldo for real.

When the screen connected, Ernesto went quiet for twelve seconds. His brother, in Manila, did the same. Then they both started laughing.

They call every Thursday now. Ernesto keeps a sticky note on the monitor with the three steps Marisol wrote out for him.
